WANT A NICE
TITLE TO WEAR?

There's One in Camp
Begging for a
Home

Anybody want a nice title of "Count"
to wear?
There is one loose in camp that can
be had for the asking. In face, the
owner regards it as a bit of junk and
would like to have it carted away.
The owner is married, very happily
married, he says, so there is no use for
ambitious young ladies to aspire in
that direction.
The principal trouble with the title
is that it is a German title, and the
owner, having never lived in Germany,
and with no love for that nation, has
no desire to retain the same.
Adolph F. Wassilak of the 44th In-
fantry is the owner of the title of
"Count" although he is not only not
trying to prove up on his clear title to
the addition to his name, but it trying
to forget it.
He wishes that the government
would forget the thing long enough to
let him really into the army and
over to the front. He is in the army,
and happy to be there, but he would
like to see more action than is per-
mitted men of foreign birth. He is one
of the 100 men who came here a short
time ago, ineligible for service at the
front because of their birth, but who
may see service in other parts of the
globe where American troops are sta-
tioned so that they in turn can be re-
leased for France.
Wassilak is perfectly willing to serve
anywhere in the world in any capacity
that will help the cause, be he is also
willing to dispose of his title before he
goes.

Wassilak Glad to
Show His Bravery

Sergeant A. F. Wassilak, Company
4, Dev. Battalion at Camp Lewis,
Wash., writes that he is pleased with
the prospect of going where he will
have a chance to show his loyalty for
the United States. His letter in part
follows:
"I have finally received my citizen-
ship papers, which I have been trying
so hard to get for some time, but was
unable to get them because of this
country being at war with my former
country, Germany.
"Was promoted to corporal on the
14th of last month and a few days
ago I received another promotion to
sergeant. Am glad to have at last a
chance to show my loyalty to this
country and hope I may soon be given
the opportunity."

Riflemen Hit
Five in Siege
Of Ohio Plant

KENT, Ohio, Thursday, June 18,
- (AP) - Striking union employes of
the closed Decker & Black Electric
Company in an outburst of violence
today besieged the plant with rifle
fire for nearly four hours. At least
five men were wounded, one seri-
ously.
The snipers ceased firing on or-
ders from A. F. Wassilak, picket
line captain, who said William
Crayford, union president, had ob-
tained warrants charging two score
men in the plant with inciting a
riot.
Crayford asserted bloodshed re-
sulted because two moving vans
occupied by about twenty-five men
roared through company gates
under a tear-gas barrage affecting
a score of strikers.
