DIES - Mrs. Alta G. Stevens, 2355 East High street, past president of the American Legion auxiliary and district chairman of Division 11, American Red Cross, died at 3:30 a. m. Thursday in St. Luke's hospital after a short illness.
Mrs. Stevens was born Sept. 22, 1896, in Harlan, Ia., where she received her education. She lived there and in Des Moines, Ia., until 1936, at which time she moved to Davenport. She was married to Willard W. Stevens on July 20, 1929, In Adele, Ia.
A member of St. John's Methodist church, Mrs. Stevens was also associated with the American Legion auxiliary, of which she was a past president, the Davenport Woman's club, and the Red Cross. She was active in welfare work.
Surviving are the husband, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Gillette, Tipton, Ia., two daughters, Mrs. Arthur Lewis, Decorah, Ia., and Miss Mary Jane Stevens, at home; a sister Mrs. Charles Crawford, Tipton, and three grandchildren. A daughter died in 1940.
The body was taken to the Hill & Fredericks mortuary where services will be held at 2 p. m., Saturday. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.
